While the man who caught the ball, Charles Baker, a 27-year-old Oxford man, was being interviewed on television Monday, police in Oxford recognized him as someone wanted by Miami University police. "We had some people call our communications center," said Sgt. Stephen VanWinkle of the university police. Miami University police had issued an arrest warrant for Baker resulting from an Aug. 16 traffic stop, VanWinkle said. When members of his department turned on the television, "Sure enough, they were interviewing him," the sergeant said. A call was made to Cincinnati police to see if they had an officer at the ballpark. Reds media relations director Rob Butcher said university police also called Reds security. "They said, 'If you can find the guy, we'd like him arrested,'" Butcher said. University police were awaiting word late Monday whether Baker had been caught. Baker is wanted on charges of driving under suspension, obstructing official business and fictitious plates. "I asked him his name and he said, 'Dave,'" said Fox Sports Net's Chris Welsh, who interviewed Baker. "I said, 'Dave What?' He said, 'Smith.'" |
