Packers ready for Dodge Ball season?

Thursday, June 09, 2005

Just over an hour into the Green Bay Packers’ minicamp practice on Wednesday morning, coach Mike Sherman called the team to the center of Ray Nitschke Field. Usually, that means he’s about to emphasize a practice point or move inside because of threatening weather, but this time, he sent the players hustling back to the locker room for some fun. Dodgeball, according to the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE.

“Everybody was going, ‘OK, this is what we want to play,’” receiver Donald Driver said. “I thought it was going to be more bowling or more something else, but we loved it. It was fun.”

In previous June minicamps, Sherman has broken up the practice routine with bowling, golf and paintball, all aimed at improving camaraderie.

This year, with the help of his director of football administration, Bruce Warwick, Sherman decided they’d play the kids’ game that has become a hit in bar leagues.
