NASCAR driver visiting Guantanamo Bay?

Following Saturday night’s running of the Bank of America 500, driver Joe Nemechek will be off to visit the naval base at Guantanamo Bay. Nemechek, whose NASCAR sponsor is the Army, will visit the installation on a trip sponsored by Goodyear. He will be accompanied by his mother, Martha, according to the GASTON GAZETTE.

“One thing I learned driving the Army car is that the troops, no matter where they’re stationed, follow NASCAR,” said Nemechek. “In many countries, they’re up in the middle of the night watching the race.”
