RIP Stats Man
By Ben MallerI want to send my condolences to friends and family of long time southern California stats man Dennis Minishian who passed away last week. Minishian was one of the men behind the legendary voices of the Los Angeles sports scene. He's done stats for all the best over the years from Vin Scully and Bob Miller to the late Chick Hearn.
Minishian gave me a hard time when I first started in sports talk radio but over the years we worked things out. He was a fan of the old "Ben & Dave show" and always had strong opinions on the different sportsradio personalities that have come through LA.
Many people don't know that Minishian was a ball boy on the 1964 UCLA championship basketball team coached by John Wooden. You can see a picture of Dennis as a youngster in the front row of this team picture.
May he rest in peace along with Jim Pells, Liz Shanov, Irv Kaze and the other LA press box regulars who have passed away the last few years.
